Football superstar Romario announced his retirement on Friday that comes to be the end of two decades at the top of Brazil’s national sport.
The 42-year-old striker told Rio’s O Dia newspaper that he was no longer able to cope with the physical pressure that is offered by professional football..
“I’ve stopped playing. I can’t do it any more. I haven’t played since November,” Romario said.
Romario is missing the speed and endurance that once were his best qualities and now is a shadow of the world-class scorer who starred for Barcelona and led Brazil to its fourth World Cup in 1994.Same year.
Romario was named FIFA’s player of the year.
Last year, Romario scored what he claimed was his 1,000th career goal, though FIFA officially gave him a much lower total.
The only player who officially reached 1,000 goals was the one and only Pele.
